Independent sound designer and music composer for film and video. I have a background in the arts, having studied at Filmkunstskolen i Kabelvåg, doing video exhibition works.
I love recording in the field or in my studio and own modest equipment for both. I play the double bass, on which I’m classicaly trained and typically play with a bow. Sometimes I also do video editing.

Room with four doors

An essayistic documentary by Mathias Østebø Weng

Through letters, locations and reenactments, we explore Mathias knowledge of and relationship to his father, who died when he was a teen. Throughout the process of the film, Mathias starts to appear as his father, first through sound, then on images, almost as a ghost.
I was part of filming it, and developed a technique to record in 5.0, in combinations of a shotgun mic for center and either omni or cardiod pickup patterns for the sides and the rear mics. I was switching the stereo pairs around depending on the situation. I’m also composing music for the film.
